Caruso Family Chiropractic El Cajon >> Treatments >> Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy, or extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), is a type of treatment that doesn’t involve cutting your skin. This non-invasive treatment utilizes high-energy acoustic pressure waves. These waves are delivered through a handheld device that Dr. Robert Caruso will place over your problematic area.
The pressure waves create responses in your affected tissue. This action triggers your natural healing process. It also improves your blood and fluid circulation. As a result, the affected tissues receive enough oxygen needed to repair themselves. Because of this benefit, Dr. Caruso recommends it if you have injuries that don’t respond to other treatments.
Dr. Caruso may recommend this therapy if you have chronic pain affecting your soft tissues and tendons. These are the conditions that shockwave therapy can be of great help:
These conditions respond best when they are treated at the source. And this is where shockwave therapy becomes an effective treatment. Since it gets to the source of the problem, you have lower chances of experiencing the pain again.
Your treatment starts with a thorough assessment. To determine the real cause of your pain, Dr. Caruso will review your history. He will also examine the affected area and evaluate your movement. All of these are necessary so he can assess if you can surely benefit from this therapy.
If it’s the right treatment for you, Dr. Caruso will determine how many sessions you need and what other chiropractic options can help your condition. For best results, our chiropractor may recommend other treatments such as the following:
Chronic pain can ruin your daily activities. But it doesn’t have to be that way. If you have injuries in your tendons or soft tissues, you may benefit from undergoing shockwave therapy. It’s not at all painful. However, you may feel a mild tapping or pulsing sensation during treatment. If you feel any discomfort, it’s just temporary. Your chiropractor will adjust your comfort level.
Many of our patients here at Caruso Family Chiropractic Clinic experience improvement in just a short series of sessions. Some even reported having their chronic pain gone after just one session. However, your results may be different from other patients. Dr. Caruso will outline your treatment care after a thorough evaluation.
It depends on your condition and how your body responds to shockwave therapy. You may experience positive outcomes in just a short series of sessions. Or your body may take a long time to fully respond to this treatment.
This therapy is generally safe. However, you may notice mild redness, swelling, or soreness in the treated area. They typically fade within a day or two after treatment.
Even though shockwave therapy is generally safe, it is not for everyone. If you have blood clotting conditions or you’re pregnant, this therapy is not ideal for you. Dr. Caruso will determine your situation to make sure if shockwave therapy is safe for you.

Our goal is not only to relieve your discomfort, but also to allow you to resume doing the things you love. We like to keep things simple, straightforward, and personalized, focusing on what's most important, your comfort and well-being.
