Plantar Fasciitis Chiropractor in El Cajon

That sharp heel pain when your foot hits the floor in the morning is a classic sign of plantar fasciitis. It often keeps coming back because the real cause of the stress on the fascia is never addressed. Dr. Robert Caruso focuses on identifying and correcting the source of the problem.

Care.

Relief.

Women feet with Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a common condition Dr. Caruso treats at Caruso Family Chiropractic. Many patients arrive after trying stretches, ice, or injections that only provide temporary relief. That is why many people begin looking for a chiropractor for plantar fasciitis who focuses on the root cause instead of just the symptoms.

The pain shows up in the heel, but the real problem is often how the foot and ankle handle stress with every step. When those mechanics improve, the constant strain on the fascia can finally begin to settle down.

What Plantar Fasciitis Actually Is

The plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue that runs from your heel bone to the base of your toes. Its job is to support the arch and help absorb and transfer load during walking and activity. When it is placed under repetitive abnormal stress, tiny tears develop at the heel attachment, the tissue becomes chronically irritated, and you get the classic stabbing pain when you first load the foot after any period of rest.

Symptoms tend to follow a recognizable pattern. The first few steps out of bed in the morning are often the worst. The pain loosens up a bit as you move around, which leads people to think they are getting better, only for it to return after prolonged standing or a long walk. That cycle is not improvement. It is the same mechanical problem playing out the same way every day.

Why the Standard Advice Falls Short

Stretching the calf addresses tightness in the gastrocnemius and soleus, which is real and relevant. But tightness is a symptom of restricted ankle dorsiflexion, not the root cause of it. You can stretch indefinitely and still not restore the joint mobility that allows the ankle to flex far enough forward during the gait cycle. When that range is limited, the plantar fascia stretches further than it should with every step to compensate.

Night splints keep the foot in a dorsiflexed position while you sleep, which prevents the fascia from shortening overnight and reduces that brutal first-step pain in the morning. That is genuinely helpful for symptom management. But it does not change how the foot loads during the day when you are actually walking. Cortisone injections reduce the local inflammation temporarily but can weaken the fascial tissue with repeated use, and once again do nothing about the mechanics that are producing the inflammation.

The structures that most consistently need to be treated to actually resolve plantar fasciitis are the subtalar joint, the midfoot joints, the first metatarsophalangeal joint, and the ankle itself. Those are joints, and they need hands-on treatment to restore the mobility that changes how the foot loads.

What Recovery Looks Like

Most patients with plantar fasciitis who complete a proper course of care, where the full mechanical picture is being addressed, see significant improvement within four to six weeks. Cases that have been going on for a year or more, particularly those involving multiple cortisone injections, may take longer because of the fibrous tissue changes in the fascia. But the outcome is achievable in either case.

The goal at Caruso Family Chiropractic is not just to get you to where the heel pain is manageable. It is to correct the mechanics so that normal daily activity does not keep recreating the problem. We treat plantar fasciitis patients from El Cajon and the surrounding East County communities including Santee, Lakeside, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, and Alpine.
